About Mearas Photography

Mearas Photography is owned and run by me, Jim Hawkins.

Established in 2012, it was created in response to a demand for the photographs that I enjoyed taking. It wasn't planned, it didn't set out with any ambitious money making ideals, but it was a practical and efficient way to unite the equestrian photographs that I had taken with the people that wanted them. I am most grateful to a couple of friends who first introduced me to the equestrian world and allowed me to see first hand just how passionate and dedicated the community is about all things equestrian. Photography and equestrianism make a beautiful and complimentary combination. Never have I met a group of people for whom a photograph can mean so much and bring such enjoyment. This, for me, merely fuels my enthusiasm and drive to get more and more quality photographs.

Happily, since setting up Mearas Photography, I have been invited to take photographs of different genres and have subsequently been able to expand my portfolio to cover local events too.

As Mearas Photography does not represent a full time business and/or primary source of income (as you can see from my outfit in the picture above!), the prices that are charged merely reflect what is required to purchase and maintain the type of photography equipment and editing software that will guarantee the best possible images. Without charging a modicum fee, I could not afford this equipment on my own. In essence, Mearas Photography only pays for itself - and nothing more.

My guiding principle for Mearas Photography, and one that underpins all of its activities, is being passionate about what I do and what I deliver.

'Mearas'

The word 'mearas' comes from the Anglo-Saxon word meaning 'horses'.

The word is also used in J.R.R. Tolkien's 'Lord of the Rings' where the 'Mearas' were a race of noble horses who lived as long as Man. They also spoke the same language as Man and had extraordinary strength and intelligence.
